Barack Obama is my new President

A revolution...

I have to admit I'm a little teary. Granted I get teary at just about anything; politics, weddings, commercials but this is big.

I don't think I've ever been more proud of my country.

Now I just have to hope the gay marriage bans in California and Arizona don't pass. Lex said it today when she asked if getting Obama elected and nobody losing their civil rights was too much to ask for in one day.

I'm going to let it go and enjoy this victory. Donna Brazile said it best (as usual):

"Tuesday, November 4, 2008 will go down as the day America opened its history book, turned the page and started a new chapter of change.

This is truly an historic night — a moment many of us prayed for, marched for, organized for and some even died for. This is not the end of a journey, but the turning of a major page in American history.

If Dr Martin Luther King were alive, he would have cautioned us not to stop praying, not to stop marching, but to keep the dream alive.

As Senator Barack Obama has stated so long ago, change never comes easy. Tonight the people of America will tell the world that they are ready for change and they will back Obama in leading the change."

Happy Election Day!

Yes, the election is over. And although we may not all have voted for President Obama, it is time to face facts. And the facts are that he is the American President. He isn't the Democratic President or the Republican President, but the President of the United States, and anyone who doesn't accept him as the President of the United States is pure and simple un-American.
That doesn't mean we have to accept evrything he does. That doesn't mean you don't fight for the constitution and fight for what you believe in, but he is the President of the United States and if you believe in this system, then you are required to accept him as the President of the United States and you support him in every way possible. As the saying goes, "A house divided cannot stand."
Because I believe in the Constitution of the United States, I am not going to take up arms against the man who was rightfully elected the President, because I say we must give the man the benefit of the doubt. Let the man rule and if necessary, let's fight him the way Americans fight, in the ballot box, not on the streets, not through smears, not through anger and hatred.
A new corner has been turned and it is up to all Americans be the best that it can be.
